Johnson Back On Board

Last week ends NCHA board meeting saw past NCHA President Fred Johnstone elected to fill the casual vacancy left by the resignation of NCHA President Richard Webb.

Long-standing NCHA member and trainer Johnson brings his experience onto the board and in the recent elections in February he was backed by fellow board member Martin Moran. While his name as a trainer of pleasure and cutting horses, as well as his profession as an equine chiropractor, makes him known to many in the quarter horse industry.

Martin Moran himself alongside one of the country’s leading Non Pros Peter Shumach will now take on the roles of Vice President while former Chairman of Non Pros and NCHA Vice President Ron Perel will take over Richard Webbs postion as NCHA President.

Ron has been a regular competitor as a non pro in the Southern Queensland region for many years now and set a few hearts fluttering when as newly elected Chairman of Non Pros a few short years ago, decided to introduce a non pro forum into the Chatta Magazine. In what was considered by some as a bold move at the time the forum has become popular with the NCHA membership and quickly raised the profile of this popular NCHA board member.

Although business commitments this year has kept Ron off the show circuit of late his horses are still seen regularly competing at the SQCHA shows and Aged Events under the capable guidance of Burdekin Trainer Mark Mulcahy. It’s only fitting that our latest President comes from what is unquestionably the fastest growing region in Australia for the sport of cutting, the Southern Queensland region.
