The NCHA Board have some vital and tough decisions to make at their next meeting.
Having a close look at their decision to move the 2012 NCHA Futurity back a week will not be the only thing on the NCHA Boards agenda. There will also be the matter of finding a temporary replacement for Bob Johnstone who resigned from the board back in July. There is also the decision on the Office Manager Position that has been vacant since the last few resignations from the NCHA office.
It is hopefull that the current General Manager Glenn Morgan has a pile of quality CVs on his desk as he searches for someone who has the ability to run a tight ship and keep the office running in a smooth and harmonious way. Ads have been run since August in the local Tamworth newspapers and on employment websites with wording such as:
“The National Cutting Horse Association of Australia is seeking a motivated, target driven individual to join their expanding team in Tamworth, NSW.
This position requires an energetic person with strong time management and interpersonal skills, a high level of attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple projects and work well under pressure. The successful applicant will demonstrate leadership, decision making and organizational skills to ensure that the NCHA office staff meet performance requirements.
The successful applicant will undertake a variety of tasks including:
*staff management and training
*administration duties
*financial reporting
*attending board meetings and meeting board member requirements
*managing all office responsibilities both at main office and events
The successful applicant must have experience in office management. Experience with MYOB, Microsoft Office programs and report writing is essential. The position would involve travel and flexible working hours”.
Although taken for granted the people who work for the NCHA are a povital part of the sport of cutting in Australia and it is imperative that the person who takes on this vacancy will have the ability to retain the current staff members that are in place.
It is also vital that the board member that gets voted in will at least be able to stay within the board until the next elections are due. In the past twelve months the turnover of office staff and Board members has been quite large and is an unwelcome distraction for the establishment that would prefer to concentrate on the job in hand.
Hopefully after these positions have been filled the NCHA will be able to address many projects that have been put on the backburner because of these distractions, like the upgrading of the Cutting Show Manager programme which is due for release at the beginning of the 2012 show season.
As for the 2012 Futurity Date? It is rumoured that there are more than just some of the NCHA membership that aren’t impressed with the decision.
